GAMBLE WITH FATE.COM
Madison could feel the tears welling up in his eyes as he stood with Zach’s arm wrapped around his waist. He shifted closer to the man, holding him tightly. It had been six months since the kidnapping incident and Madison’s life had really turned around. Alysia and Rob had been sad to see him go, but they’d known it was the best for him, that he could finally live the life he wanted. Of course, Maddox hadn’t been happy to see him go, but strangely the man had agreed, perhaps after seeing everything he’d been through. It had been strange to be rid of that life, knowing that he would never again have to sleep with men for money. After he’d moved in with Zach, he knew he’d found his home. It was heaven to curl up with the man on the couch and watch TV on a cold evening or, in the warmer months, swim with him naked in the pool. They’d spent many a long night in each other’s arms, making love in every way possible, and it never got boring. Zach just knew he would spend the rest of his life with Madison- he never wanted anyone else. Madison had made the decision to scatter Jamie’s ashes in the one place he had enjoyed the most- the one place he’d been truly happy. He’d taken time off from his job as a secretary for an important businessman to travel with Zach, Alysia and Rob to the place where he and Jamie had gone on vacation years before. It had been hard, feeling like he was letting Jamie go forever, but he knew it would be better than keeping his ashes on the mantlepiece where they would grow dusty and forgotten. “You can do this, love.” Zach was the thing that had kept him strong enough through everything and he was grateful for the hand that squeezed his own gently. Madison took a step forward, stepping up to the edge of the quaint wooden bridge they were standing on, then turning to the others. Alysia and Rob stood together, holding hands and the image made him smile softly. He knew the two of them had gotten together some months before, and he hoped they’d be as happy as he and Zach were. His gaze turned to the blond, who smiled warmly and the boy enjoyed the soft, loving look in his eyes. He clutched the urn that held Jamie’s ashes close to his chest and took a deep breath. “We’re here to pay our last respects to the best friend anyone could ever ask for. Jamie…you were everything that anyone could ever have wanted in a friend, a companion and while we were so devastated to see you go…your memory will live on with us forever.” He paused to press a hand to his eyes, forcing himself to hold down the tears. Zach, seeing his distress, stepped up behind him and wrapped arms around him tightly. The man made him feel strong, stronger than he had ever felt before and it was that strength that helped him to continue. “It would be really nice if you were here with us Jamie,” he said softly, looking down at the urn in his hands. “I would have loved you to meet Zach…and to see how happy all of us have finally become. You’re the only thing that could make any of us happier.” Madison looked up to meet Alysia’s eyes and the boy stepped forward to take his hand. “It’s time to say goodbye, Madison.” The dark haired boy nodded and together, the four of them stepped up to the edge of the bridge, looking down into the quiet stream that ran below. Madison took the lid off the urn and held it out over the stream, feeling the breeze rustling through his hair. He felt Zach’s hand on his shoulder as he took a deep breath, preparing to say his final words to the best friend he’d ever had. “Goodbye Jamie. I’ll always love you, forever and ever.” With that, he tilted the urn, allowing the contents to spill out, drifting away on the breeze. Most landed in the stream, to flow onwards forever, allowing Jamie to truly be free. Once the urn was empty, Madison turned away with tears in his eyes. He was pulled against a firm chest and gentle hands brushed through his hair. “It’s how he would have wanted it,” Alysia spoke from behind him, and he had to agree. Jamie would be free forever, drifting away on the breeze like so many dreams. With a smile, Madison took the hand of the one dream he knew he had forever and he felt gentle lips press against his own. As long as he had Zach, he knew he could go on, he knew he could tackle everything life threw at him.
As long as he had Zach, nothing would ever bother him again.
